CHEMBALTIC – Risks of Maritime transportation of chemicals in the Baltic Sea

Kymen Sanomat published an article about the results of Chembaltic 13.11.2013 "Kemikaalivuoto olisi öljyä pahempi" and in website: "Kemikaalivuotojen riskejä halutaan vähentää Itämerellä".




The Chembaltic project will gather information about the chemicals transported in the Baltic Sea. The risk for chemical accidents for open water and ice conditions will be modeled. The risks of port operations of chemicals will be studied in the project. In addition, the risks of chemical tank washing water and other special risk factors in chemical transportation will be evaluated. The project will give information about the risks for maritime transportation of chemicals. This will allow stakeholders to improve preparedness for accidents.

The project schedule is 1.2.2011–31.12.2013. The project is funded by European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation (Tekes) and the following companies: Neste Oil Oyj, Vopak Chemicals Logistics Finland Oy, Port of HaminaKotka Ltd, Crystal Pool Ltd and Finnish Transport Safety Agency (Trafi). Other support gives Finnish Port Association and Finnish Shipowners Association.
