International seminar on Maritime Safety and Oil Spill Response Capacity, Kotka, Finland 24.7.2008

The seminar will take place in Kotka, Finland, 24th July 2008. The seminar is organized by the Kotka Maritime Research Centre, University of Helsinki and WWF. The seminar is held as a part of the annual Kotka Maritime Festival.

The seminar day offers insights on how the transport flows will develop in the Gulf of Finland in the future, and what are the statistics of ship accidents. The aim is to learn more and create new ideas for the maritime safety in the Baltic Sea.

The keynote speaker of the seminar is Professor Rick Steiner from the University of Alaska, Marine Advisory Program. His topic is 'Lessons from the Exxon Valdez catastrophe for the Baltic Sea'. Professor Steiner is an internationally known scientist and conservation specialist, who has also acted as an advisor to several oil spills around the world. He is also an environmentalist who travels globally sharing his experiences and expertise.
